Can Balinese Cats Be Left Alone?

As indoor cats, the Balinese love the comfort of your house. Since they are “loners” by nature, you can leave them alone or at least for several hours during the day. They adapt well to that because they easily become attached to their owners and feel reassured when they are with them, but don’t require constant attention.

How Can I Leave a Balinese Cat Alone When I Go Out?

If you have to be away from your cat for a few hours, there are some things to do so he won’t feel lonely and isolated.

First of all, it’s better not to leave him alone during the first few days. Accustom him gradually to your absence by leaving him alone for a few minutes at first, then a few hours.

He will probably feel the need to contact you from time to time during those periods of solitude, or even become upset and meow too much, but don’t worry. Don’t give in to his demands. He will get used to it after a while.

When you are home, let him know that it’s fine to be alone by spending time with him and paying attention to his needs (e.g., play with him). You can also leave some toys for him to play with.

What Can I Do to Make Him Feel Less Lonely When I’m Out?

If you see your cat is upset during those periods of solitude, without wanting to give in to its demands, you can try some things such as:

  • Move his food and water bowls just where he can easily reach them.
  • Leave the radio or TV on.
  • Leave the house lights on.
  • Leave an extra litter box.

Why Do Some Cats Struggle to Feel Comfortable at Home When They Are Alone?

Some cats like having company and become very attached to their owners. If you happen to be the only person in the family and have the tendency to leave the house often, you might want to consider getting a second cat as a companion for your pet.

With both of them around, the time you are absent will pass more quickly for your cat. If he doesn’t get attached to his housemate, at least he’ll have someone to play with.

Do Balinese Need a Companion to Live Happily at Home?

In general, a cat will be much happier and healthier living with a feline companion. There are some exceptions though. The most important thing is that you know your pet well enough to see whether he behaves as if he was lonely during those periods of solitude.

However, if you don’t know how he behaves when he is alone during those periods – which sometimes could be several hours – it would be better to adopt a second cat. Two cats will play with each other and entertain themselves, while a single pet will feel the need to contact you from time to time because he gets lonely.

Is It Better to Have Two Cats or One?

Balinese are generally good with other cats so it is better to adopt an adult cat than a kitten. By adopting an older cat you can be sure he has already developed his social skills and won’t harm your pet. Older adopted cats will also be more affectionate towards their owners, which is particularly good if your Balinese likes to be in constant contact with you.

On the other hand, in some cases, it might actually be easier to integrate a kitten into your family because he will have more energy and curiosity so you can play with him together with your pet.

It’s also important that your new cat is healthy, properly socialized, and spayed.

Do Balinese Like to Be Alone?

Balinese are among the most affectionate cats you can find, but they also love their independence. They don’t like being constantly in contact with their owners so if you see your pet is spending some time alone it’s normal, even though he may miss you.

Spending time alone is actually beneficial for your pet. He will have time to play with his toys, scratch the furniture or just relax without being bothered by you. It’s also important for him to be able to hunt even though he doesn’t have to do it anymore because you are feeding him every day.

If your cat spends a lot of time alone during those periods you are out, it doesn’t mean he is a bad companion. He is just independent and likes his space as much as you do.

Is Balinese a Good Cat for Singles?

Balinese are affectionate cats who love to be with their owners most of the time, but if you have to leave the house for a considerable number of hours during the day, you should consider getting a second cat as a companion for your pet.

It would be better to adopt an adult cat than a kitten because he will have already developed his social skills and will get along with your pet without harming him. By adopting an older cat you can also be sure he has already adapted to his surroundings, which will make it easier for him to find his spot in your new home.

Final Thoughts

When you decide to get a pet, think about whether you can afford to stay at home all day long with him. If your job requires you to leave the house often, it is better that you adopt two cats so one of them can keep your pet company when you are away.

Even though Balinese are affectionate cats who love being around their owners, they also love their independence. When you are out of the house for a considerable number of hours it doesn’t mean your cat is unhappy or that he is missing you too much if he spends some time alone.

A cat will be happier living with its feline companion, but sometimes they prefer to live by themselves if they have enough space and toys to play with.
